Liverpool have successfully hijacked Chelsea’s move for Moises Caicedo and agreed to a British record £110million deal with the Brighton midfielder overnight.
Brighton held firm in their valuation of Caicedo all summer and rejected several bids made by Chelsea, until the midnight deadline on Thursday for an auction between clubs.
Luckily for Liverpool, they went over the asking price, which was set at £105m, and offered £110million.
Personal terms are yet to be agreed but should be a formality. Caicedo and his agent were last night in west London awaiting developments of the bidding war.
Liverpool will likely pay more in wages to Caicedo than Chelsea had offered.
Caicedo will become Liverpool’s third major signing of the summer after Alexis Mac Allister, also from Brighton, and fellow midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
